Places
Four countries. A thousand stories.
Chapter One
India
India is not a country you visit so much as one you negotiate with. It is too large, too old and too various to be seen, only chosen from. Empires were laid down here like sediment: the Mughals over the Rajputs, the British over the Mughals, and beneath them all the older India of the temple towns, still going about its morning as though none of the others had ever come.

The Regions
A continent within a country

North India
From the pink-walled bazaars of Jaipur to the marble perfection of the Taj Mahal, North India is where centuries of empire left their most extravagant marks. This is Rajasthan's desert fortresses at golden hour, Old Delhi's labyrinthine lanes thick with spice and sound, and the sacred ghats of Varanasi where fire meets the Ganges at dawn. Every city here tells a different dynasty's story.

South India
South India moves at a different pace: slower, greener, older. Kerala's backwaters drift through coconut groves in hand-built houseboats. Tamil Nadu's gopurams rise in technicolor above thousand-year-old temple towns. Karnataka's Hampi scatters its boulder-strewn ruins across a surreal landscape. And the spice plantations of Munnar and Wayanad smell exactly the way India should.

West & Central India
This is India's wild heart. Central India's national parks, Ranthambore, Bandhavgarh, Tadoba, Kanha, are where Bengal tigers walk through teak forests and ancient ruins. The western Deccan holds fortress monasteries and cave temples carved into living rock at Ajanta and Ellora. Mumbai pulses at the coast, a city of contradictions where colonial grandeur meets relentless ambition.

East India
East India is the subcontinent's best-kept secret. Kolkata's crumbling colonial mansions hide a city of poets, filmmakers, and the country's finest cuisine. Kaziranga's tall grasslands shelter one-horned rhinos and wild elephants. And the Northeast (Nagaland, Meghalaya, Assam) is a mosaic of tribal cultures, living root bridges, and landscapes that feel closer to Southeast Asia than to the rest of India.
